CLARK FLETCHER and JOE JACKSON
Founded by William (Bill) Fletcher in 1961, Fletcher Kitchens, as it was originally known, was renowned for kitchen and bath remodeling including cabinet and countertop manufacturing and installation, as well as tile installation.
In 1966 Bill joined with Gerdes Schoon and formed the Fletcher-Schoon Cabinet Shop, although customers still referred to their projects as having been performed by Fletcher Kitchens. In 1969 Bill bought out Schoon’s shares and continued remodel work with an emphasis on kitchen and bathroom cabinetry as well as small commercial projects.
When Clark Fletcher, Bill’s son, graduated from Iowa State University in 1978, Bill moved the business to its current location on the city square. Clark joined the family business and began the move into the computer age by writing a program to produce door and drawer cut lists for the shop. Over the ensuing years, other programs were developed to track job information, material purchases, and job costs. After ten years, in 1988, Fletcher Wood Products, Inc. was formed with Clark and Bill as owners. Cabinet and countertop manufacturing for both residential and commercial projects was the main focus of the business. Six years later, FWP forged into computer controlled manufacturing with the addition of a computer numeric controlled router and the computer software to program it. This allowed FWP to efficiently produce custom shaped cabinetry for Born Free Motor Coaches for the next five years in addition to their regular cabinetry and countertop work.
In 1996, Fletcher Wood Products became one of the first cabinet shops in the state to produce cabinetry with nested-base technology with the purchase of a KOMO CNC router, use of Cabnetware software, and an in-house program written in Paradox Database to produce machine code to cut the parts. This created new efficiencies for the company, bringing cutting, dadoing, line and hinge drilling, and assembly drilling on to one machine with one operation. Labeling of parts soon followed and FWP’s production capacity grew even more.
Fletcher Wood Products, Inc. is now a commercial cabinet and countertop manufacturer owned by Clark Fletcher and Joe Jackson, who bought out Bill in 2005. Using Cabinet Vision and FWP’s own Enterprise Manager Software, FWP focuses on providing quality craftsmanship and exemplary customer service through great communication and on-time delivery.
